Here's an excerpt from "RIVERWALKER", Chapter #20: LAIR
"..... Reaching overhead, Adler swung open the doors of a small wooden cabinet atop the wardrobe. Inside, the aztatzontli: a headdress of singular beauty. Inspired by the god Tlaloc, its core consisted of a blue, wooden bowl-like structure attached to the crown of a leather skullcap. Centered on the bowl, two small snakes formed a double sieg - a lightning bolt design - while the skullcap was encrusted with bits of jade, turquoise, and coral. Imbedded in the crown and extending upward, a glorious crop of irridescent plumage from the green quetzal accented by a singular feather from the sacred white heron.
From the skullcap’s rear and side edges hung panels of deep indigo snake skin, skirted and flared so as to cover the wearer’s ears and neck. Fastened to the headgear’s frontal ridge, a bright blue mask accommodated the brow, cheekbones, and nose; around its eye orbits, the mask had been fashioned into thick, circular layers, resembling a pair of grotesque goggles with a small snake’s head flanking each nostril. From each side of the mask, large, yellowed jaguar teeth hung suspended, curving inward to the corners of the wearer’s mouth.
Tlaloc would be pleased....."
